Over on, you can learn all about the Buddi dolls, which come equipped with a “highly intricate cloud-backed voice recognition engine capable of identifying speech,” as well as “20 sensors and cameras which provide detailed realtime information about its environment.” Buddi comes equipped to fluently converse in both English and Spanish.

Child’s Play (2019) reiterates the fact that the Chucky, having now haunted three decades of movie-goers, is elastic in his ability to encapsulate historically specific fears including not only autonomous inanimate objects, but those objects that we have breathed life into through rapid technological innovation.The classic “Good Guys” doll gets an upgrade in next year’s Child’s Play remake from MGM and Orion, now known as “Buddi” (but don’t worry, the killer doll is still named Chucky).įrom what we’ve heard, one of the Buddi dolls will essentially get hacked to become a killing machine (no Charles Lee Ray or Brad Dourif in this one), and a new website for the film that was just launched previews the high-tech new Buddi doll that becomes the new Chucky. Before committing suicide, he programs the doll to have none of the ordinary safety features, leading to Chucky’s characteristic violent immorality. The movie starts out with a factory in China, where a worker creating Buddi dolls (AI toys that are able to use the internet to control all of the various smart technologies in a consumer’s home) faces horrific working conditions. That means this one is a standalone that doesn't tie into the previous films' watch order. After three decades of the same canon, the Chucky franchise was faced with a studio reboot that set aside the existing timeline (and the paranormal elements of the original franchise). In this reboot, Chucky responds to a growing fear of machine control.
